5 strange things you didn’t know about Stranger Things (vfx)

While we wait for season 3 of popular Netflix show Stranger Things, we might have something for you. We know that you have completed watching season 2 and it is not enough. Well no one can certainly get enough of that show. So here are 5 amazing mind blowing facts (vfx) that will leave you spell bounded.

The show was initially named “Montauk”

As per that story’s plot it took place on Long Island in 1980, but the Duffers (twin brother Matt and Ross Duffer) had to change the show’s location when they realized it would be very difficult to shoot there during winter.

Shawn Levy is that guy

Executive producer Shawn Levy who also directed chapters three and four of Stranger Things has also directed films like Night at the Museum, Date Night, and The Internship. The Duffers said that they find themselves incredibly proud and grateful to have him on the set.

So much VFX

More than 50% effects on the show were done with visual effects. Right from the Demogorgon to upside down and use of Eleven’s powers; everything was done with VFX training. The Duffer brothers wanted to use as less CGI as possible but to shoot Demogorgon smashing through walls practically, so they had to resort to using CGI.

A large number of youth got interested in looking for VFX courses in Kolkata after seeing the stupendous quality content it can produce. Well, who wouldn’t like to create a Demogorgon of their own?

Efforts to make it look 80s

The show is set up in the 80s. Right from the costumes to production setup everything was pulled in the 80s theme. Although the show was shot digitally on the RED Dragon in the post production a layer of real film grain was applied to help achieve a more vintage look.

Demogorgon

The Demogorgon was achieved through a combined effort of animatronics, prosthetics, CG, and performance. The stunt actor was dressed in a costume similar to Demogorgon’s body and had green props over him which helped in the VFX manipulation of the character.
