Amazing VFX breakdown of the famous movie “Black Panther”

Marvel Studios assembled one hell of a breathtaking film again. This time we came to know about Wakanda and the mysterious superhero Black Panther. The film became one of the few films on this planet to enter the one billion club. Touching the one billion mark came at a cost. Black Panther had over 3000 VFX shots which were individually curated by artists.

Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) created visual effects for the film and was primarily responsible for creating the digital urban environments of Wakanda.

The Land of Jabari

Jonathan Weber, the VFX artist who worked on this film said it was hell lots of work to get the virtual lands appear so aesthetic. The lands of Jabari were however not the same as that of Wakanda. The architecture was more tribal and cave sculpted.

Weber wanted to adhere a photo realistic quality to the scenes and in order to do so he not only covered the entire set with blue screen but also hired another team just to work on land of Jabari.

The futuristic look of Wakanda

ILM maintained a very good line of blur into reality and fantasy, the African culture and Wakandan progress; nothing was neglected. The hip city had tall buildings which were high rise but it didn’t miss to put small touches of local and tribal culture so that the people do not feel disconnected with the film. That is the sign if a good VFX course; you do not just learn the technical skills but also its implementation using your own tactics.

The fight between both the black panthers was done with CG models. The CG models were designed with action directors performing certain moves wearing green costumes. Not all because the Black Panther costumes wasn’t all VFX. Just the alterations were done with visual effects.

Not without the best VFX training can anyone dream of bringing such a film to life.
