5 things you probably didn’t know about the VFX courses

VFX is the common abbreviation for visual effects. It is an art of implementing artificial imagery that manipulates scenes on the screen with technology. It is impossible to shoot bomb blasts and aliens invading our planet. That and countless other scenes which are extraordinary and outside the realm of common camera techniques gets done with the help of visual effects. However, there are certain things you might not know about a VFX course. This article will guide you through all those misconceptions and clear the doubts for you. In order to stay ahead in the game, one needs to be very diligent and adamant about achieving the best concepts.

Here are five very important things that you need to take down in order to excel at what you do. Let’s begin!

  • Practice is the key

If you are under the notion that there is anywhere you will head without practice then, you are wrong my friend. Keep working on sample projects and keep editing with numerous different scenes to master your skills. There is no replacement for hard work and dedication. Being a perfectionist is all about how much you are willing to sharpen your talents. VFX training is not something that you become the kind of overnight. It begins with knowing all the different applications and software, then you watch other projects; with good effort and time your skills also take a good flight.

  • Watching films is actually studying

It may seem odd in any other profession but for someone willing to be a VFX artist, watching regular movies is an exercise. Observing the work of different artists and technicians will make you more skilled. Every single time you watch a new film you will be able to find new tactics and learn some new application. Try watching films which are critically acclaimed for visual effects. That will add to the weight. Action movies are also a very good choice for that matter of fact.

  • Create a demo reel

This is a much-known step to all. Demo Reel is the first impression you create of the work you are capable of on others. It is more like a resume. It is a compilation of your work in the form of videos that showcase your talents. This will give the interviewers in the production studio an idea of how talented you are and of your skills as an artist. Making a reel takes good time and patience. Find the best of your works and compile them in a short video. The reel shouldn’t be more than 5-6 minutes and do not make it too short like 2 minutes too. Keep quality content and keep it versatile. Versatility is a very important part of the demo reel.

  • Keep looking for inspiration

A visual effects artist must always strive to create better content. It is very important for one to search for inspiration from others’ work and through films and various tutorials. Observe the after and before visual effects of superhero films, fantasy films, sci-fi, drama and any other genre which dictates good content for your visual effects learning. In this manner, you will remain inspired to do better and seek perfection all the time. Inspiration is the key, my friend.

  • Know your specialization

Everyone cannot do everything. There is a reason that we have so many departments. Ergo; you will also need to have a special interest of yours within VFX. This will come later in the course. While studying always keep an eye open for seeking your calling and finding out what you are best at. It is important to move ahead with a plan. Whether you want to end up with lighting, production, sound, supervision etc no matter what your field of interest is making sure to be 100% dedicated to it.
