The academy awards are getting closer with each passing day. Today we will be checking out the movies nominated for best visual effects. It would be unfair to say that any one of them is less deserving than the other. The VFX supervisors have worked immensely hard to get the desired results. Bringing back Rachel to life in Blade Runner 2049 was the most thrilling experience for fans. Never has technology gone so far as to bring a whole another person to life on screen. This is the fourth academy award nomination for John Nelson. Nelson has previously won best visual effects for gladiator in 2000. This film was the reflection of how far CGI can really go. The VFX team recreated Rachel just like she looked in 1982. Based over a digital skull Sean Young’s Rachel was created. Nothing so miraculous has ever happened in a movie in the history of cinema. This is the living proof that with best VFX training anything in possible.
The film is about Peter quill and his band of misfits who are engaged in a conflict between the sovereign and their foes. The artists nominated for visual effects of this film are Christopher Townsend, Guy Williams, Jonathan Fawkner and Dan Sudick. All of them have been nominated before. This film had huge expectations from the side of the audience considering how the first part was such a massive hit.
The third film nominated for best visual effects is Kong: Skull Island. Yet another film in the Kong series was released. Earlier monsters were just people wearing costumes and the cities were miniature versions. Times have changed and no such stunts are done anymore. With the use of visual effects Kong became one of the most beloved films of people. This is the third Academy Award nomination for Stephen Rosenbaum. He has been previously nominated for Avatar and Forest Gump and won both the times.
The most rooted for nominated film. In this last edition of Star Wars we watch our beloved Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) for one last time. The saber fights, inter galactic scenes and spaceships; all were nothing but the magic of visual effects. This is Ben Morris’ second nomination and he has won the Oscar one before for The Golden Compass. The other artists nominated alongside him are Mike Mulholland, Neal Scanlan and Chris Corbould. All of them have been nominated and won an Oscar in the past.
The truce existing between humans and apes is shattered and a war is up on the dawn. Caesar, the leader of apes is at a juncture where his moral values are getting questioned. The artists nominated are Joe Letteri, Daniel Barrett, Dan Lemmon and Joel Whist. With such an excellent team of artists involved in the post production of the film who have worked in films like Avatar, The Jungle Book, The Hobbit etc.
